After working with market research data for some time with Digitab, part of TNS. I went off to study about food at the University of Gastronomic Sciences (Università degli studi di Scienze Gastronomiche), Pollenzo, Italy. I graduated in the three year gastronomic sciences degree course in February 2009. My interests include food and it’s role in environmental, health and social matters, wine, beer and photography.
In March 2009 I started working with Slow Food UK, where I am able to pull together my experience and skills in data and mass communications, food policy, photography and writing.

Dear Henry.
Thank you for your honesty about my header. You are right. It is awful!
Then I see yours and it looks so fresh and beautiful.
I am inspired to improve! For a start, I will borrow my partner’s digital camera (which has a macro feature), and start snapping close-ups of food.
I will tell you when I have changed my header so you can visit and comment again! (But any tips in meantime are welcome).
Thank you!
Elisabeth
Dear Elisabeth,
That is great news. You could also use the picture of seafood you had on one of your posts – that one was pretty good.
If you want some tips for photographing food, try this site http://www.foodportfolio.com/blog/
There, I recently learnt a food photo “rule” that you shouldn’t have black in your food – so you need to expose food differently than other subjects.
You will probably need an image editing program – like adobe photoshop or something much more basic. It is good to be able to view a histogram of the exposure and have the ability to adjust the light levels, contrast, etc.
I’d be happy to help more, so I look forward to hearing from you.
Henry.
Hi Henry
Thanks for your help. I have changed the WordPress design and got another header pic – an improvement (I think) but no food in it…Not having black in food is a good pic tip (but wonder where that leaves the beloved beetroot?).
The pictures on your header are truly beautiful.
There’s a blog conference in Amsterdam in 24 October (Blog 08) which looks interesting. And I am organising my first blog competition (deadline 8 Oct) if you are interested – prize is the DVD of Our Daily Bread. Check out http://tinurl.us/8bfdcd
I was just admitted into the Univ. Gastronomy’s Master program, Italian Gastronomy and Tourism. Did you find this experience at the school invaluable? Is it worth the expense. Currently, I’m a teacher looking for a career change and hoping to follow my passion…food. I just want to make sure I’m making a wise dicission. Did your career change with your degree or help you in your current job? Thanks for your help.
Hello,
I just started a blog since I just graduated with a degree in Environmental Studies in Baltimore, Maryland and I’m planning on traveling to India starting an internship with Navdanya. When looking for photos for Navdanya I found your blog and wanted to get some suggestions and advice in advance of my trip.
Hope to hear from you,
